A Career Shaped by Diverse Experiences and Industry Knowledge
My journey in the steel industry spans 27 years, with eight at SAFAL Group. Of those, eight years with SAFAL Group, four were in Tanzania with ALAF, and the last four here in Kenya with MRM. Each step in my career has been a learning experience, and every new role, location, and challenge has added something valuable to the experience.
Throughout my career, I’ve worn multiple hats, from business development to marketing, sales, and even operations. I was involved in pretty much every stage of the process, including product innovation to customer relations.
…what I’ve learned is that business development is key to making an organization relevant, not just today, but even in the future. That’s how we drive real value for our customers and stakeholders.

Experience so far as the new head of business development
While I’ve had previous experience in business development, this role with SAFAL Group is something new for me. What’s struck me the most is how aware the leadership team is of the challenges we face. They’ve developed clear plans, and there’s a strong drive to execute them. Everyone is eager to move fast, which I absolutely love. We quickly identified low-hanging fruit, areas we can tackle immediately to get the ball rolling. But what’s really thrilling is seeing the pace at which ideas are being put into action. The pressure to deliver is palpable, and that excites me because it calls for creativity, strategic thinking, and teamwork. I’ve been traveling a lot, meeting new partners and stakeholders, and it’s been a great experience so far. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey.

My work has involved a lot of moving around, and I actually love it! If you’re looking to grow professionally and personally, you can’t limit yourself to one place. I’ve worked in multiple cities in India, and coming to Africa, especially East Africa, was a huge shift. At first, people often have misconceptions about the region, but the reality is far more exciting. The opportunities here are vast, and the people are amazing. Working in different places teaches you to appreciate different perspectives, both personally and professionally. My family’s journey has been equally enriching. They’ve adapted, and it’s helped them grow and interact with people from different cultures. Sure, there are practical challenges, moving, changing addresses, and so on, but when life opens up in such a fulfilling way, you embrace it.
